Volunteer conservationists wanted: hornet and beaver advisors in the Regensburg district
The Regensburg District Office has created an exciting opportunity for all nature lovers and environmentalists in the district. We are looking for volunteer hornet and beaver advisors who are willing to get actively involved in the area of species and nature conservation. Those interested can apply until October 31, 2024 and become part of an important project that promotes protection and education about these fascinating animals.
The volunteer advisors play a crucial role by providing citizens with advice and support. They support the Lower Nature Conservation Authority (UNB) with on-site advice and help find solutions to problems associated with hornet and beaver populations. The UNB at the Regensburg District Office offers further information on the specific tasks and requirements.
Tasks of the beaver consultants
Beaver consultants are of great importance for beaver management in Bavaria. Their work includes advice, prevention, compensation and, if necessary, access to beaver populations. The future consultants will be trained in a one-week course by the Bavarian Academy for Nature and Landscape Conservation (ANL). This course is offered twice a year and the costs are covered by the Regensburg district if the participants then carry out voluntary work. The next course will take place from December 9th to 13th, 2024 in the Landshut district, although places are limited.
The volunteer beaver consultants receive an expense allowance and a travel allowance. The costs for further training are also covered by the UNB and insurance cover is guaranteed. The induction is carried out by experienced beaver consultants from the Regensburg district, who provide the new consultants with advice and support.
Role of Hornet Advisors
Hornet advisors, on the other hand, support the UNB in educating and advising citizens who come across hornet nests in their area. Together they look for solutions and, if necessary, implement protective measures or resettlement. In order to work as a hornet consultant, you must take part in a special course offered by the Bavarian Academy for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management (ANL). Here, too, the district covers the training fees if the participants continue their voluntary work afterwards.
Voluntary work is also compensated with an expense allowance and travel costs are reimbursed. The time required by the hornet consultants varies depending on the frequency of hornet and wasp occurrences in a year.
In order to work as a volunteer beaver or hornet advisor, an official appointment from the UNB at the Regensburg District Office is required. If you have any questions, you can contact Luisa Peißer from the UNB by phone on 0941 / 4009-199 or by email naturschutz@lra-regensburg.de.
Applications are possible until October 31, 2024. Interested parties should enter the subject “beaver advisor” or “hornet advisor” and send their documents to the Regensburg District Office, Lower Nature Conservation Authority, Altmühlstraße 3, 93059 Regensburg or submit them by email.
