Urgent! Peru guest students are looking for hosts for intercultural exchange
The German Youth in Europe (DJO) is calling for urgent support for host families in Germany. The organization is currently looking for families who are willing to host guest students from Peru for a period from October 25th to December 5th, 2025. The students are aged 16 to 17 and aim to not only learn German during their stay, but also to experience German culture first hand. This initiative promotes intercultural exchange and social openness in Germany.
A central component of the program is that the guest students take part in classes at a high school or secondary school where the host family lives. In addition, an introductory seminar is offered before the start of the stay to prepare the host families for life with the students. DJO points out that a return visit by the host families in Peru is also possible, which further strengthens the intercultural connection. Interested persons can contact the DJO directly using the contact information provided.
The role of host families in the exchange
The importance of homestays cannot be overemphasized. Every year, AJA member organizations enable around 2,000 guest students from over 50 countries to stay in Germany. These programs not only demonstrate the cosmopolitan nature of the host families, but also offer the opportunity to discover new perspectives and values. Staying with a host family gives exchange students access to other lifestyles and cultures, which can lead to intense bonds that often create lifelong international friendships.
Living with a guest student enriches both the student's life and that of the host family and leads to an exchange that transcends cultural barriers. Many families report positive experiences that help them rethink their own perspectives and broaden their horizons.
Advantages for host families
Hosting an au pair is also a popular option for families. In addition to cultural enrichment, the au pair program offers support with child care and household chores. Families can take in a young person from abroad who receives accommodation, food and pocket money in return. This enables cost-effective childcare and the chance to build a close bond with the au pair.
The benefits are many: Families benefit from flexible support that can be tailored to their needs. In addition, there are often fewer illnesses and lower costs due to ongoing contact with the au pairs. The children also have the opportunity to improve their English skills and learn about new cultural perspectives.
An exchange program in a family setting is not only an opportunity to encounter other cultures, but also to reflect and enrich your own way of life. Interested families should decide quickly, as the application deadline for places in the au pair program for 2025 and 2026 is already open and places are limited.
