Citizen survey: Strengthening social cohesion in Bavaria
In rural areas of Bavaria, social cohesion is becoming increasingly important. A new research project led by the Nuremberg University of Technology aims to find out what this cohesion is like and what ideas citizens have to strengthen it. This project, which runs until 2026, is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Homeland and offers a platform for everyone who lives in rural regions.
The Bavarian Homeland Project examines what social cohesion means. It's about how people treat each other, feel connected and work for the common good. In order to obtain a comprehensive picture, three surveys and four in-depth projects will be carried out. All voices are needed: long-time residents, newcomers, young and older people from villages and small towns.
How can citizens participate?
All citizens living in rural communities are invited to take part in the surveys. These can be conveniently carried out online via the project website. The first survey to look at local social relationships took place last year and the results are available online. The second survey, which looks at the connectedness of people in their communities, starts on September 14th and runs until October 14th, 2024.
Participation in this project is not only an opportunity to express one's opinion, but also a chance to actively contribute to improving social cohesion. The data collected is systematically evaluated to develop a better understanding of the needs and challenges in rural regions. The results will be regularly published on the project website so that anyone interested can follow the progress.
In addition to the first citizen survey, the results of an in-depth project on the topic of everyday support for seniors through neighborhood help can already be viewed online. This shows the importance of the community working together to find solutions to local challenges.
