Strong together: Citizen survey on social cohesion in Bavaria

An exciting research project is being launched in rural areas of Bavaria that focuses on social cohesion. The Nuremberg University of Technology has set itself the goal of finding out how people live together in these regions and what ideas citizens have to strengthen this cohesion. The project, which runs until 2026, is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Homeland.

The Bavarian Home Project is concerned with social cohesion, which means that it is about the concrete coexistence of local people. It's about the feeling of belonging and the issues that concern the common good. To shed light on these topics, three surveys and four in-depth projects will be carried out. People from different age groups and backgrounds have their say, both long-time residents and newcomers from villages and small towns.

How can you participate?

All citizens living in rural communities are invited to take part in the surveys. These can be conveniently carried out online via the project website. For the in-depth projects, the university team will specifically contact people and organizations throughout Bavaria to ensure a broad perspective.

The first survey to look at local social relationships took place last year and the results are available on the website. The second survey, which deals with the connectedness of people in the communities, starts on September 14th and runs until October 14th, 2024.

Why is participation important?

This research project aims to gain valuable insights into connectedness in rural regions. This information is systematically evaluated in order to make social cohesion more visible and to further develop it. The results will be continuously published on the project website so that everyone interested has the opportunity to find out about the progress. The results report of the first citizen survey as well as a brochure on everyday support for seniors through neighborhood help can already be viewed online.

The project management is in the hands of Prof. Dr. Sabine Fromm from the Nuremberg University of Technology. If you have any questions or would like to contact us, please use the email address heimatprojekt-bayern@th-nuernberg.de available.
