Honorable award: Firefighters honored in Windischeschenbach

A special event was recently held in Windischeschenbach that honored the contributions of long-standing fire department members. During the festive event, numerous volunteers received the Bavarian Fire Department Medal of Honor, an award that represents their tireless commitment to fire protection. This honor is not only a form of recognition, but also a sign of respect for the people who often work in difficult conditions to ensure the safety of citizens.

In his speech, Mayor Karlheinz Budnik emphasized the immense importance of the fire department for society. “The fire department is like a rock in the surf, it ensures safety and cohesion,” explained Budnik. "Today we are not only celebrating the many years of loyalty, but also the invaluable contribution that each individual makes to the well-being of our city. Your commitment has won the trust of the citizens and you are role models for everyone."

Appreciation of the firefighters

In addition to Budnik, other important personalities, including District Administrator Andreas Meier and District Fire Commissioner Marco Saller, also spoke to express their appreciation. Meier emphasized that it is not a given that people work voluntarily and without pay for the public for decades. “Your commitment is invaluable and deserves the highest recognition,” he said.

The awards were given to firefighters who had been active for 40 years, including Andreas Bogner and Harald Windschiegl from the Neuhaus fire department. Mayor Budnik also received an award for his 40 years of membership in the Bernstein Fire Department. “It is an honor for me to stand here today, not only as mayor, but also as a comrade,” said Budnik emotionally.

Other firefighters were honored for 25 years of service, including Stefan Vollath from the Bernstein fire department and Daniel Tretter from the Naabdemenreuth fire department. District Fire Commissioner Saller praised the achievements of these comrades and emphasized that they not only extinguished fires, but also brought human warmth to the community.

The event was a strong show of appreciation for the firefighters who ensure the safety of the public every day. Thomas Wilhelm, the city's fire brigade officer, summed it up aptly: "Volunteering is a valuable treasure that we have to preserve. Without the commitment of people like you, our city would not be what it is today."
