Together for nature: One million new orchard fruit trees by 2035!

There is a rich variety of habitats in Bavaria, and orchards are at the top of the list. These colorful landscapes are not only beautiful to look at, but are also home to around 5,000 different species of animals and plants. Unfortunately, populations have declined significantly in recent decades. To counteract this trend, the Bavarian state government has launched an initiative that aims to plant one million new orchard fruit trees by 2035.

The home community of Kohlberg is part of this important project, which is being implemented as part of the Bavarian Orchard Pact. The government wants to actively involve citizens and offers support when purchasing fruit trees. Anyone who is interested can take part in the “Scattered fruit for everyone!” campaign. participate and benefit from financial grants.

How you can help

The state government supports the purchase of tall, bare-root fruit trees with up to 45 euros per tree. This means that the cost of the plants themselves is greatly reduced. Only the expenses for planting, such as tie posts and protective measures, have to be borne by the participants. It is important to note that tree planting requires a long-term commitment as the trees should remain standing for at least 12 years.

What types of fruit can be planted? Here are some examples:

  • Kernobst wie Äpfel und Birnen
  • Steinobst wie Pflaumen und Kirschen
  • Walnüsse
  • Quitten
  • Wildobstsorten wie Vogelkirsche und Eberesche

However, there are also some exclusions. Certain varieties that are considered problematic, such as some apple and pear varieties, are not eligible. In addition, trees are excluded from commercial planting.
