Thanksgiving in Dalking: A celebration for the whole family
Dalking. On Sunday morning, the members of the Dalking parish gathered at the Pestkreuz to celebrate Thanksgiving together with Pastor Franz Merl, Deacon Alfred Dobler and community leader Silvia Fuchs. This year was the first time that the altar boys wore the harvest crown to the parish church of St. Peter and Paul, which gave the festival a special touch. The celebrations took the form of a family service that actively involved the children.
The little participants carried various types of fruit and vegetables from the baptismal font to the altar and proudly presented them. To further entertain the children, Fuchs organized a guessing game, which was a lot of fun. Pastor Merl blessed both the harvest crown and the harvest altar, which was decorated with the food offered. The children were also allowed to come to the altar during the Lord's Prayer to sing the prayer together. The priest warmly thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the festival.
Tradition and community
This year, the towns of Döbersing and Gtreib were responsible for designing the harvest altar and implemented it with great attention to detail. The musical accompaniment was once again provided by the Dalking church choir, which created a festive atmosphere with its diverse repertoire. The event was not only a religious event, but also an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the harvest.
Involving children in the celebrations shows how important it is to introduce the younger generation to traditions. Such events strengthen the sense of community and promote cohesion within the parish. Thanksgiving in Dalking therefore remains a significant event in the parish calendar, highlighting both the spiritual and social dimensions of life in the parish.
