New information board at the Arnulf barracks: A look into the history of Roding

There is a new attraction in Roding that not only keeps the history of the city alive, but also that of the Arnulf barracks. An information board was recently inaugurated, offering visitors and interested parties an insight into the background to the naming of the barracks. This plaque has been standing in front of the barracks since the beginning of August and is intended to strengthen the connection between the city and its military history.

The inauguration took place last Thursday and attracted numerous representatives of the Bundeswehr and the city of Roding. Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Tobias Gößlbauer, the commander of Supply Battalion 4, led the ceremony and emphasized the importance of the plaque. “It is not only an information medium, but also a symbol of the shared history of Roding and the barracks,” he said. The plaque is intended to help remember the legacy of Emperor Arnulf, the barracks' namesake.

The meaning of the board

Dr. Reinhold Schoierer, the second mayor of Roding, emphasized the close relationship between the barracks and the city. “The Arnulf barracks have been an important part of our garrison city for many years,” he explained. Senior Government Councilor Alfons Lermer, head of the Bundeswehr Service Center Bogen, also spoke positively about the board. “She is an example of how we maintain our traditions and respect the past,” he added.

The Arnulf Barracks, which has had this name since 1964, is named after Arnulf of Carinthia, an important East Franconian king and Roman-German emperor of the 9th century. He was known for donating a chapel to the city of Roding. The new information board now offers the opportunity to find out more about the work of Emperor Arnulf in Roding and to deal with an important historical figure.

This initiative not only honors the history of the barracks, but also promotes awareness of local history. The plaque is a further step towards arousing interest in the history of Roding and strengthening the connection between the city and the Bundeswehr.
