Patronage festival in Gleissenberg: celebratory honors and anniversaries

The patronage festival in Gleißenberg was a very special occasion that not only honored the Holy Apostle Bartholomew, but also celebrated Pastor Franz Merl's 10-year service anniversary. The celebrations began with a devotion led by Father Merl, who administered the Eucharistic blessing and warmly welcomed the congregation.

As part of the celebratory service, Pastor Merl spoke about the meaning of the patronage festival and recalled the biblical figure of Bartholomew, also known as Nataniel. This apostle was called by Jesus and is considered one of the first to bring the gospel to various countries such as India and Armenia. The musical accompaniment by the church choir under the direction of Antonia Wutz gave the mass a festive atmosphere.

Speech and honors

Deacon Alfred Dobler gave a moving speech in which he compared the life of the Apostle Bartholomew with today. He emphasized that faith in Christ endures even in difficult times and that each individual has a role to help others. Dobler recalled that it is important to be active in a free society and to stand up for your fellow human beings.

After the service, Pastor Merl's anniversary was celebrated. Parish council spokeswoman Sabine Meixensperger conveyed the congregation's congratulations and praised the work of Pastor Merl, who works in four parishes. Her words showed how much the congregation appreciates his pastoral work, which is often more like management than traditional pastoral care.

In addition, Antonia Wutz was honored for her 15 years of work as an organist and choir director. She received a small gift as a token of appreciation for her tireless efforts. Following the celebrations, the parish council invited those present to a social gathering on the church square, where parishioners had the opportunity to personally congratulate those celebrating their anniversary.
