In Gleißenberg, where traditions are deeply rooted, this year's fair Sunday caused some confusion. The custom of “wearing Kirta-Zamm”, which has been practiced for many decades, does not seem to have generated the expected enthusiasm this year. Instead of the usual festive atmosphere, the villagers found only two chairs and a garden door on Sunday morning - a haul that can hardly be described as noteworthy.
A local citizen expressed disappointment at the meager find. “This is embarrassing,” he said, looking at his neighbors’ empty hands. The expectations of this custom, which is usually associated with a lot of joy and community spirit, were not met. Many villagers had been looking forward to lively activity, but the reality was different.
Hope for improvement
Hope now rests on the younger generations, especially the young people from Ried, who will have the opportunity to revive the custom next weekend. It remains to be seen whether they can surprise the Gleißenbergs with their commitment. At a time when selfishness and a lack of commitment are often criticized, a successful “Kirta stand” could set an example for cohesion and community spirit.
The villagers hope that the tradition will not be forgotten and that next year there will be a lively “Kirta stand” in “Bavarian Meran” again. It would be a step in the right direction to strengthen the community and maintain the joy of traditions.
