Set the parking disc correctly: This is how you avoid expensive warnings!

Amberg. In February 2023 there will be important information for drivers who have to use a parking disc in parking lots. Many people think that adjusting the parking disc is child's play, but a mistake is often made. The Upper Palatinate Municipal Traffic Safety Association, also known as ZV KVS Upper Palatinate, has now put together some helpful tips.

A common mistake when setting the parking disc is that drivers use the exact arrival time. Tommy Dörner, who is responsible for stationary traffic at ZV KVS Oberpfalz, explains: “The parking disc must be set for the next full half hour.” This means that if someone parks at 3:04 p.m., the parking dial should be turned to 3:30 p.m. If you arrive at 9:36 a.m., set it for 10:00 a.m. If the parking disc requirement only begins later, this must also be noted on the parking disc. Anyone who ignores these rules risks a fine of between 20 and 40 euros. It is also important that the parking disc is placed in a clearly visible place in the car, for example on the dashboard.

What to do without a parking disc?

But what happens if you forget your parking disc? Dörner also has an answer for this: "A handwritten note is not enough. In this case, you are not allowed to park in the parking lot." If you happen to see a traffic monitor in Furth im Wald, you can ask for a parking disc, as this is part of the employees' basic inventory.

Another important issue is keeping the parking disc turning. Dörner emphasizes that this is not allowed because parking times in city centers are limited in order to enable as many drivers as possible to use the parking spaces. If you want to park for a longer period of time, you have two options: either move the car out of the parking space to start a new parking process or look for another parking space.

The regulations regarding parking discs are clear: only the officially approved blue and white parking disc in 24-hour format (11×15 cm) is permitted. Electronic parking discs, which look like digital clocks, may also be used if they have approval from the Federal Motor Transport Authority.

It is also important to know that there are no exceptions for scooter and motorcyclist drivers in parking spaces with time restrictions. They must also attach a correctly adjusted parking disc, although special, anti-adjustment parking discs are available.

The Upper Palatinate Municipal Traffic Safety Association was founded in November 2014 and now monitors stationary and flowing traffic in over 140 cities and municipalities. The association has developed from a pure traffic monitor into a municipal service provider that supports municipalities, especially in rural areas, in questions of traffic safety and mobility.
