New waste separation in Falkenstein: focus on large films and mixed plastics

Falkenstein | October 15, 2024

From October 1, 2024, there will be a new option for citizens in Falkenstein to dispose of their waste in a more environmentally friendly way. The Cham district works have introduced separate collection of large films and mixed plastics. This initiative aims to increase the recycling rate and raise public awareness of the responsible use of plastics.

Citizens are now invited to hand in their large films and mixed plastics in special containers at the recycling center. If you would like to find out more about the exact acceptance conditions, you can visit the Kreiswerke Cham website at www.kreiswerke-cham.de. All important details about the new collection guidelines can be found there.

What are large films and mixed plastics?

Large films are all films that are larger than a DIN A4 sheet. This includes packaging films such as shrink and stretch films, which are often used for furniture, construction materials and electrical appliances. Foil bags that contain fertilizer or animal feed, for example, also fall into this category. However, foil that does not serve as sales packaging, such as tablecloths or gift wrap, will not be accepted. Mixed plastics, on the other hand, include small films and special bags that are often used for onions or potatoes.

This separate collection is an important step in the waste management of the Cham district works. It is part of a comprehensive strategy that aims to conserve resources and protect the environment. Citizens are encouraged to actively participate in this initiative and sort their waste correctly.

In addition, there is an important change that citizens should be aware of: the collection of used tires and bottle corks will stop on December 31, 2024. After this date, used tires can no longer be returned to recycling centers in the Cham district. However, to ensure that these are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner, they can still be returned to the tire dealer. Many specialist dealers offer the opportunity to give away old tires when buying new tires.

From January 2024, plastic bottle corks will be classified as mixed plastics. This means that in the future they will have to be disposed of in the appropriate containers. Natural cork waste, such as cork coasters or pinboards, should be disposed of as normal waste.
