Digital energy usage plan: Sulzbach-Rosenberg focuses on climate protection
The city of Sulzbach-Rosenberg has taken a significant step towards a sustainable energy future by publishing the final report of the “Digital Energy Utilization Plan” project. This project is part of the comprehensive effort to achieve climate goals at the local level and to actively shape the energy transition.
As part of the Bavarian energy transition initiative, the Energy Use Plan (ENP) was launched to help cities and communities make their energy supply more efficient. Sulzbach-Rosenberg developed an integrated climate protection concept back in 2011, which served as the basis for future measures. Given the urgent need to achieve climate goals, the city has decided to participate in this funding project.
Insight into the digital energy usage plan
In October 2023, the city began creating the digital energy usage plan in collaboration with the Institute for Energy Technology. This strategic document provides a comprehensive analysis of current and future energy needs and energy supply in Sulzbach-Rosenberg. After a year of intensive work, a detailed final report is now presented, which contains valuable data and a catalog of measures.
The digital energy usage plan includes a comprehensive balance of energy and CO2 emissions in the current state as well as a potential analysis for energy efficiency and the expansion of renewable energies. It also contains a forecast energy scenario that takes various assumptions into account. The results lead to concrete suggestions for action that the city administration would like to implement.
There are two key projects in particular: the use of wind power to directly supply energy to industrial companies and the optimization of the energy supply to the municipal sewage treatment plant. These projects were developed in close collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure that all aspects of municipal heating planning are taken into account.
The “Digital Energy Use Plan for Sulzbach-Rosenberg” project was supported by a funding program from the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy. The city administration would like to thank everyone involved for the successful implementation of this important concept, which represents a further step towards a sustainable energy future.
