Reading meter readings: This is how recording works in your community

LEW Verteilnetz GmbH (LVN) is again recording meter readings in the network area at the turn of the year. The reading is carried out by local representatives or by self-reading by letter. The procedure differs depending on where you live.

Meter reading by local representatives

In some areas, the local representatives (OBVs), who are mostly personally known, are on the move on behalf of LVN. They will contact households between December 21st and January 20th. If you would like to read your meter reading yourself, you can inform the local representative directly at the front door or by telephone. If the local representative does not meet the customer, he will leave a card with all the necessary information. The OBVs can identify themselves using a certificate and an identity card. If there are any doubts about the authority of the meter readers, customers can get reassurance by calling the free number 0800 539 638 1 from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Self-reading by letter

In areas without responsible local representatives, LVN informs households directly by letter in December and asks them to do their own meter reading. All necessary information about self-reading and transmitting the meter reading is explained in the letter. Whether a local representative comes by to read the meter or whether a self-reading is necessary can also vary within a municipality depending on the local area.

Electricity suppliers and meter readings

The electricity supplier from which the households get their electricity plays no role in the reading. The meter reading is forwarded to the respective electricity supplier for individual electricity consumption billing. However, it may happen that the electricity suppliers also contact you for a meter reading.
