New wastewater fees from 2025: This is what Rieders need to know!

On January 1, 2025, the municipality of Ried will introduce a new wastewater fee regulation. This reform includes the introduction of a basic fee and a split wastewater fee, which will comprehensively change the existing regulation. According to information from Ried community In the future, the wastewater fee will be €2.43 per cubic meter. In addition, a basic fee of €77.00 per year is charged for meters up to 5 m³ and €92.00 for meters up to 10 m³.

A key element of the reform concerns the stormwater fee. This is set at €0.14 per square meter. The fee calculation is based on the area of the property, the area runoff coefficient and the stormwater fee. For example, a property with an area of 600 m² in area class 3 (38%) would result in a fee of €31.92.

Background to the split wastewater fee

The introduction of the split wastewater fee was necessary in order to comply with the legal requirements in accordance with Section 56 Paragraph 1 of the Water Resources Act, which stipulates the separate collection of fees for wastewater and rainwater. This legal regulation aims to ensure differentiated and fair billing of wastewater costs. Wikipedia explains that in the past, municipalities have often charged a uniform wastewater fee, but this has been deemed inadmissible by various court rulings.

In the new regulation, the costs for wastewater and stormwater are strictly separated, which means that property owners now have to pay specific fees for both types of wastewater. This is also intended to promote sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting and unsealing, which can be implemented as part of an ecological rainwater management concept.

Further measures and outlook

In addition to the introduction of the new wastewater fees, a development plan was also drawn up to examine the developed properties. The local council decided to use the area runoff coefficient method to divide the supply areas into zones. These are created based on digital maps and aerial photographs. The engineering firm Mayr from Aichach was commissioned to implement the measure.

The advance payment notices for wastewater fees will be sent to citizens in October 2025, with previous advance payments being offset against the new fees. However, the prepayment rate will be higher on November 15, 2025. Improvement contributions for sewer rehabilitation work on various streets will also be collected, with notices to be drawn up and sent out over the course of 2026.

An information event on the new wastewater fee and its background will be announced in good time to ensure that citizens are fully informed about the changes.
