Together for the Lech: Your voice counts in renaturation!

The Donauwörth Water Management Office has launched an exciting initiative to restore the Lech, one of the most important rivers in Bavaria, to its original state. The project, called “Licca liber,” aims to correct the changes to the river caused by human intervention. These interventions, such as straightening and construction, have severely impaired the natural dynamics of the Lech and reduced its ecological diversity.

As part of the project, an online survey is now being carried out, which started on September 2, 2024. Citizens are invited to submit their opinions and suggestions for the renaturation of the Lech. The focus is on section III, which extends from the confluence of the Wertach to the confluence of the Lech Canal near Ostendorf. The survey runs until September 30, 2024 and is accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.

Why is the survey important?

Participating in the survey is an excellent opportunity for citizens to actively participate in shaping the future of the Lech. The Water Management Authority emphasizes that the feedback collected will play a crucial role in developing sustainable measures. These measures should not only benefit the environment, but also take into account the needs of local residents.

The renaturation of the Lech has many advantages. It creates habitats for various plant and animal species and improves the quality of stay in the area around the river. In addition, the groundwater level is stabilized, which is of great importance for agriculture and drinking water supply. Citizens are the experts in their region and their ideas are crucial to finding the best solutions.
