Nomination for the local elections: Candidates from Obergriesbach wanted!
The local elections in Bavaria are taking place on March 8, 2026. This electoral period, which takes place every six years, enables citizens to decide on key local decisions. The mayors, district administrators as well as the members of the municipal and city councils, the district councils and other municipal committees are elected. The election time is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and if necessary, a runoff election will take place on March 22, 2026 if an absolute majority is not achieved in the mayoral or district council elections. This is reported by Sonntagsblatt.
The local elections are one of the central decision-making bodies for the design of municipal resources and the development of projects in the communities. These include tasks such as the construction and operation of schools and hospitals, waste disposal and drinking water supply. In this election, all citizens eligible to vote have the opportunity to actively participate, provided they do not feel excluded by criminal or judicial decisions.

Election process and procedure
The electoral organization in Bavaria stipulates that each municipality and each district acts as its own constituency. Larger municipalities can also be divided into voting districts to ensure effective voting. The number of mandates to be awarded depends on the number of residents - for example, a municipality with 4,000 residents has 16 mandates.
The seats are distributed according to the Sainte-Laguë/Schepers calculation method. Seats are allocated to the nominations in accordance with each other, and if the claims are the same, the higher number of votes of the people concerned decides. This highlights the importance of every single vote and the impact that the election has on community development.
The 2026 local elections not only offer a platform for citizens, but also an important opportunity to make an active contribution to the future shape of their communities. Be informed and engage in this important democratic process.
