Premiere of the 3D film Merings Gute Stube” delights the audience!
On January 14, 2026, the community of Mering celebrated the premiere of the 3D film “Merings Gute Stube”, created by directors Günter and Verena Peschke. This film documentation shows the construction progress of the newly designed town center from the perspective of drone footage, which captures the entire complexity of the work. The first part of the film was presented at the local museum a few months ago, while the premiere of the second part took place in mid-December as part of a champagne reception and a photo exhibition. Joachim Pagel, the chairman of the local history association, led the event, while Mayor Florian A. Mayer gave a welcoming speech and explained how the project came about. The documentary not only offers a look back at the past work, but also highlights the challenges that the construction workers faced, particularly with regard to the subsoil and maintaining the accessibility of the shops.
The redesign of the traffic area around the market square was the result of long-standing debates about traffic calming and improving the quality of stay in the community. This extensive construction project was realized in a period of just under four years, from the idea to implementation. A significant success was achieved in the renovation of the underground construction areas, which resulted in enormous savings by avoiding constant excavation. The measure was subsidized to around 50 percent by urban development funding, which covered a total of 1.8 million euros of the construction costs.
Film screening and celebrations
The opening of the newly designed center was celebrated by the people of Meringer last weekend in a celebratory setting. The local history association is planning a film afternoon on Sunday, June 1st, where the public is invited to watch the film about the modern town center. Günter Peschke, who also became known for his Mering film on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary, has made a valuable contribution to the history of the place with his detailed documentation.
