New life in the Meringer market archive: Schlickenrieder takes over!
On January 27, 2026, the Meringer market archive is facing a new beginning. Anton Schlickenrieder took over the management of the archive after Dieter Bordon died in April 2022. In the months after his death, the archive's operations were largely at a standstill, with dedicated archive helpers continuing the work on a low-key basis. In order to better overcome the challenges in archive maintenance, a team was formed at the suggestion of Mayor Florian Mayer to restructure the archive work.
Josef Weishaupt, an IT specialist, particularly contributed to securing the existing data. It successfully backed up the files and prevented possible data loss. Schlickenrieder, who is not only the second chairman of the Mering local history association, but also the author of the local history book “1000 Years of Mering 1021 – 2021”, brings valuable experience to his new position.
The team behind the archive
The new Meringer Market Archive team is made up of various experts. These include:
A central concern of volunteer archive keeper Gabriele Victoria Schaffner is the long-term prospects for archive maintenance in Mering. She expressed concerns about the future care and maintenance of the valuable archive materials.
Although the Meringen market archive is well sorted, there are difficulties in comprehensively researching all archive materials. To solve these problems, there is an urgent need to create a digital archive database and make clear coordination with the registry in the town hall. The Archives Act obliges civil status data to be transferred to the archive after certain deadlines.
Commitment and outlook
Mayor Florian Mayer is pleased with Anton Schlickenrieder's commitment and the fulfillment of Dieter Bordon's wish to have an active and well-managed archive. In addition, Wolfgang Wrba will take care of the integration of the digital archive of the St. Afra district in order to modernize and expand the area's documentation.
For anyone interested who would like to get involved in the archive work, please note that suggestions for collaboration are accepted by telephone or email. This active participation could help not only to preserve Mering's cultural heritage, but also to make it lively.
