Old monastery in Mering: renovation and citizen participation start now!
The old monastery in Mering is to be fundamentally renovated. This historic building has an identity-forming significance for many citizens, as the former girls' school and kindergarten were housed there, among other things. In order to ensure the preservation of the monastery, comprehensive renovation measures are required. The Mering market will therefore develop plans for the renovation and future use of the building.
Financial support for this project is provided through urban development funding. In addition, it is expected that funds from the federal government and the Free State will also be available, provided that the planned uses have a social and community character. The intended uses include rooms for clubs, adult education centers (VHS) and public offerings for the local population.
Citizen participation
Mayor Florian Mayer emphasized the importance of preserving and using the monastery sensibly. When planning, several aspects must be taken into account, including accessibility, fire protection, the historical structure of the building and the elements that create identity. Economic efficiency and the limited budget also play a decisive role.
In order to include citizens' opinions and wishes in the process, an online survey on the subsequent use of the building will be carried out before planning begins. This survey is open from February 19th to March 15th. Those interested can visit the website https://t1p.de/wvj8f or take part in the market town’s app. Mayor Mayer encourages all citizens to actively participate in this survey in order to create a broad basis for the future use of the monastery.
