Vodafone is struggling with mobile phone problems in Friedberg – Here’s what happens next!

On September 3, 2025, mobile phone customers in Friedberg will be affected by restrictions. The background is structural measures that led to the shutdown of a mobile phone station at Münchener Straße 1. This shutdown, which occurred on July 11, 2025, will impact Vodafone's network operations. As a result, up to 108 customers in the areas of Münchener Strasse, Bahnhofstrasse, Old Town, train station and some of the B 300 have to expect a limited mobile phone network. The restrictions range from weaker reception to a complete power failure.

Vodafone has already announced a two-stage plan to restore mobile phone coverage in downtown Friedberg as quickly as possible. On the one hand, modernization work is planned on the affected mobile phone station, and on the other hand, Vantage Towers is commissioned to build a new mobile phone station. Planning for the new station is already in full swing, including the search for land. Vodafone has apologized to affected customers for the inconvenience and is working to resolve the issues quickly.

The current situation with other providers

However, there are isolated reports of disruptions in other parts of Germany. Users complain about various problems ranging from internet drops to TV connection failures. The majority of fault reports come from cities such as Frankfurt am Main and Bad Nauheim. Many customers express their frustration with the network quality on social media.

Network coverage in Germany

The German mobile networks are subject to certain weaknesses due to regional characteristics and the focus on metropolitan areas. According to logitel.de, the networks of CHIP, connect and Computerbild were rated mostly positively, but there are also areas that are not covered. A total of 2.26 percent of Germany is still without access to 4G/LTE or 5G, which is referred to as “white spots”.

In addition, the Federal Network Agency is calling for improved network coverage, especially in rural regions. Failures in the network operators' digital strategy and the abandonment of national roaming are delaying progress in nationwide coverage. In recent years, measures have been taken to expand infrastructure in rural areas and stabilize connections along important transport routes. The Federal Network Agency's specifications require network coverage for 90 percent of households, which illustrates the urgency of the investments.
