Dasinger Wasser: A journey through history and nature in the local museum
A special exhibition on the topic of “Dasing Water” is taking place in the Dasing Local History Museum. This exhibition shows the history of Dasing and the importance of water for the region.
History and finds
The history of Dasing begins with the early medieval mills on the Paar. In 1993, the Dasingen geologist discoveredDr. Wolfgang SchmidDuring his time as a student he built wooden piles 4 meters deep. This discovery led to an archaeological investigation. A well-preserved Carolingian watermill from the 7th and 8th centuries was found.
Latest finds
In 2023, workers excavating for administrative buildings encountered well fragments. The oldest fountain, made of oak planks, dates from the 14th and 15th centuries. The pair is still referred to as a “lifeline” to this day. Modern mills use water power to process grain and wood and to generate electricity.
Ecological aspects
The couple's surroundings offer biotopes that provide habitat for the native stork. However, flooding poses a danger to the agricultural areas in Dasing. Fishing rights on the Paar go back to the 15th century. Thanks to the Dasinger sewage treatment plant, the fish population in this body of water has recovered.
Use of water
The exhibition also addresses the use of water in everyday life. Wells supplied the farms and their residents. In pre-industrial times, water was transported through wooden tubes called drawbars. In areas rich in springs, the “ram” was used to pump the water mechanically.
water supply today
The Dasinger water cooperative was founded with the support of the local blacksmiths. Today Dasing and the surrounding towns get their water centrally from the Adelburg group. In the past, process water was often fed into pits or directly into the couple. This has changed with the construction of the modern sewage treatment plant.
The special exhibition will take place on Saturday, November 2nd and Sunday, November 3rd, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Local History Museum in Dasing, Bahnhofstraße 4.
