Seniors' afternoon in Weiden: A celebration of community and honors
A lively seniors' afternoon recently took place in the Max Reger Hall, which made the hearts of those present beat faster. Around 500 seniors came together to enjoy an afternoon full of joy and conviviality. The event was organized by the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council and the Senior Citizens' Office and was once again very popular this year. Volksbank Raiffeisenbank Nordoberpfalz eG supported the event financially, which contributed to the successful atmosphere.
The moderator of the afternoon, Peter Klein, who is also chairman of the senior citizens' advisory board, opened the celebration with a humorous saying: "If you are asked when you are old, then say from tomorrow. Because today is the celebration." These words immediately put you in a good mood and set the tone for the rest of the afternoon.
Entertainment and enjoyment
Guests were able to fortify themselves with coffee and a variety of delicious cakes, while a varied entertainment program was offered. The Parkstein band “Basaltexpress” created a happy atmosphere with their musical performances, including the classic “It was in the Bohemian Forest”, with many guests swaying along. The “chorus worms” also contributed to the entertainment with their singing and dancing performances. The line dance group “Oldies but Goldies” and the dancers from the Katrin Petese dance studio rounded off the program and brought a lot of joy to the audience.
Another important aspect of the afternoon was the presence of the police, represented by Chief Inspector Manuel Ott and the bear mascot Toni. Ott informed those present about safety in Weiden and gave valuable tips on how to avoid scams, which can particularly affect older people.
Honors for commitment
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the honorary award by Mayor Jens Meyer. This year, three women were honored for their outstanding commitment to senior work: Irma Urbanek, Erna Kick and Rosemarie Meier. "On behalf of the city of Weiden, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your work is a shining example of charity and solidarity," the mayor praised the honorees.
The organizational team and the participants are already looking forward to the next event next year, which will certainly be a great success again.
