Vandalism at the Wiesau cemetery: graves affected – police are investigating
On the night of September 10th to 11th, 2024, several graves were damaged in the cemetery in Wiesau. The police have already launched an investigation to clarify the incident. Affected are graves in groups 09, 10, 12, 15, 16 and 17, where various items such as bowls, crosses and candlesticks were forcibly removed or damaged.
The Tirschenreuth police station has taken over the case and is working to find those responsible. In order to help the grave users affected, all holders of grave rights in the affected areas will be informed in writing. This measure is intended to ensure that all those affected have the opportunity to inspect their graves for possible damage.
Important information for those affected
Those authorized to use the grave are asked to check their grave for damage. If any damage is discovered, it is important to report it directly to the police. Police have requested specific information to be included in the notice:
- Name, Vorname und Adresse des Grabnutzungsberechtigten
- Grabnummer (Gruppe/Nummer)
- Art des Schadens
- Ungefähre oder geschätzte Schadenshöhe
The reports can either be made directly to Mr. Schuster, the contact officer at the Wiesau police station, in the Wiesau town hall (room 19, telephone number: 09631/9200-19) or sent to the Tirschenreuth police station, Falkenberger Straße 2, 95643 Tirschenreuth (telephone number: 09631/70110).
There are currently indications that the items removed were not removed from the cemetery grounds. The police have seized and stored the items found. Once the investigation is complete, a date will be announced for affected owners to receive their items back. This date will be published on the official website of the municipality of Wiesau.
