Future of learning: University presidents discuss in Tirschenreuth
At the invitation of the mayorFranz StahlThis week are the President of the East Bavarian Technical University of Regensburg (OTH),Prof. Dr. Ralph Schneider, as well as the President of the Landshut University of Applied Sciences (HAW),Prof. Dr. Fritz Pörnbacher, visiting Tirschenreuth. The joint discussion will focus in particular on the future of the Tirschenreuth learning location with its part-time bachelor's degree programs in "Social Work" and "Industrial Engineering Energy + Logistics".
Changed learning behavior
It is agreed that the current concept of the degree programs is partly outdated. The reason lies primarily in the enormous technical development of video conferencing systems during the Corona period. Since then, these systems have increasingly been used in private workplaces. Presence time at the learning location for students to participate in such video conferences is becoming increasingly unnecessary.
New concept in planning
The HAW is therefore planning a new concept for the industrial engineering course. The students will be on site in Tirschenreuth in blocks - probably around one week per semester. The OTH is also considering restructuring, but concrete implementation is still being planned. Both courses of study are intended to work more closely with companies in the region. Depending on specific needs, individual further training modules could also be offered to company employees.
"I am very pleased that both universities are sticking to the decentralized learning location in Tirschenreuth. With our historic Fronfeste, students continue to have access to an inspiring environment as well as modern rooms equipped with the latest technology," says the mayorFranz Stahl.
