Forest kindergarten opened in Tirschenreuth: A new place for little explorers

A new forest kindergarten was opened today in Tirschenreuth, which is located in the picturesque surroundings of the city forest near the Rothenbürger Weiher. Mayor Franz Stahl and the managing director of the BRK district association, Sven Lehner, gave the official starting signal for this innovative facility. The second mayor Peter Gold, the third mayor Norbert Schuller as well as numerous city councilors and other guests were also invited to the celebrations. Among those present were city forester Stefan Gradl and the head of the BRK Weltentdecker children's home, Martina Fuhrmann, along with the entire team from the forest kindergarten.

The city of Tirschenreuth took on the construction work for the kindergarten, while the BRK acted as the sponsor. The total cost of the project is 290,000 euros, with 110,000 euros being supported by funding. Mayor Stahl expressed his joy about the opening and emphasized that the existing daycare centers in Tirschenreuth had quickly reached their capacity limits. “With the new forest kindergarten we are creating urgently needed space for our children,” he explained.

Furnishings and equipment

Three children are currently being cared for in the forest kindergarten, and four more will be added in the coming weeks. The children can already use a covered area for morning circle, seating, climbing options and various play equipment. A shelter, which will be built in October, will be about 60 square meters in size and built with wood from the city forest. This will include a covered outdoor area, a wood stove and a toilet.

The forest kindergarten is the BRK's sixth facility in the district and offers children natural care. Sven Lehner thanked the Upper Palatinate Forest Association, whose clubhouse can serve as emergency shelter for the children and teachers in bad weather. Facility manager Katrin Koeppel highlighted the support of many helpers who made a significant contribution to the success of the project. Special mention was made to local entrepreneurs and craftsmen whose commitment brought joy to the children and educators.

The companies and planning offices involved in the construction include the Weidner architectural firm from Weiden, the Riedl Holzbau company from Waldthurn and the Deutsche Schraubfundament GmbH from Hesse. This collaboration shows how important local partnerships are for the implementation of such projects.

The opening of the forest kindergarten represents a significant step in early childhood education in Tirschenreuth and offers children the opportunity to experience and discover nature up close.
