Tirschenreuth outdoor pool closes with record attendance and a look to the future

The Tirschenreuth outdoor pool closed its doors for the 2024 swimming season on Sunday, September 8th. This season, visitors enjoyed a lively rush, with a total of around 30,000 guests. This is over 4,000 more than last year. Mayor Franz Stahl was pleased with the positive outcome and praised the work of the outdoor pool team, which is led by Thomas Kraus and Berthold Zeitler. “There were only minor injuries, which speaks for safety,” said Stahl.

On the busiest day, the peak day, an impressive 1,700 visitors were counted. A majority of the guests, around 70%, came from the Czech Republic or were on holiday. Despite the high number of visitors, the outdoor pool had to open to a limited extent on some days due to a lack of staff, which meant that it was only accessible from Tuesday to Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nevertheless, important events such as swimming courses and youth camps took place as usual. Berthold Zeitler particularly thanked the seven members of the water rescue service who provided active support this season and would also like to offer their help for the next season.

Follow-up and outlook

Now that the season is over, follow-up work is in full swing. This includes maintenance work on the pools and technology as well as preparation for winter. The Tirschenreuth municipal utilities are already active to ensure that everything is ready for the next season.

An important point on the agenda is the future of the outdoor pool. In the summer of 2022, the city council unanimously decided to renovate the outdoor pool. A 20-person working group has already worked on a concept, and in 2024 there was general approval for the renovation. The financing details are currently being examined by the city treasury to ensure that the necessary funds can be provided.

Skilled workers wanted

In order to keep the operation and safety of the outdoor pool at a high level in the future, the Tirschenreuth public utility company is looking for skilled workers for pool operations. Anyone interested can contact the plant management at any time to become part of the team.
