The joy of reading in Wackersdorf: 145 books at the summer holiday reading club

The popular Summer Holiday Reading Club (SFLC) took place again this year in the library of the multi-generational house, and the numbers speak for themselves: a total of 145 books were read! This event, which ran from July 30th to September 6th, has now become an integral part of the Wackersdorf library's program and has been promoting children's love of reading for eight years.

The library director Christina Kostka was enthusiastic about the participation of the 25 children at the award ceremony. “It’s impressive how much you read and how creative you were,” she said. The reading club offers students of all grades the opportunity to register as members free of charge and to read and evaluate a variety of books. Each child received a “summer journal” in which they could record their progress.

Prizes and awards

This year, participants collected a total of 206 stamps, which they received for completing challenges or designing creative projects. Special prizes were awarded for outstanding achievements. The creative award went to Leni Bauer, who enriched her journal with a comic she designed herself. Amelie Först received the hard work award after reading 21 books and collecting 27 stamps in just six weeks. Mayor Thomas Falter praised the children's commitment and said that he had only managed to read a book during his two-week vacation.

In addition to the prizes that were raffled off among the children, there were vouchers for Bayernpark, season tickets for the Panoramabad and many other small prizes. At the end, each child received a certificate and a library bag filled with candy, balloons and bookmarks. There is already great anticipation for the next edition of the reading club next year.
