There is news about fiber optic expansion in the community of Wackersdorf that will be of interest to many residents. Deutsche Telekom recently informed the local council about changes to its expansion plan. The aim is to offer early solutions to citizens who do not yet have access to high-speed internet. However, there are some adjustments that affect the original plans.
On September 18, Telekom representatives presented the updated information to city council members. First of all, it was made clear that the expansion will begin as planned in the main areas of Wackersdorf, Rauberweiherhaus and Imstetten. The work is scheduled for the beginning of 2025 and is expected to reach 1,840 households in the main town. However, Jürgen Lück, Deutsche Telekom's corporate representative for the southern region, pointed out that the costs for civil engineering have increased significantly. “Resources are limited,” he said, adding that this has led to a reassessment of the development area.
Details about the changes
The districts of Grafenricht, Irlach, Heselbach, Alberndorf and the commercial area on Fabrikstrasse are not initially taken into account as part of the internal economic expansion. Instead, Telekom plans to finance these areas through a federal and state funding program. Lück emphasized that when redesigning the development area, care was taken to ensure that the remaining districts were eligible for funding. “We have a great interest in bringing fiber to the entire community,” he said. Telekom will check whether it can take part in a tender to submit an offer.
However, it is important to note that the expansion in the affected districts will be delayed due to the required funding process. Telekom is committed to providing the community with comprehensive fiber optics, even if this could now take more time. Residents can look forward to more information as Telkom works to implement its plans.
