A warm start: Mayor Feller welcomes Schwandorfer ABC shooters
On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the time had finally come for 311 excited first graders: the first day of school at the seven elementary schools in Schwandorf was upon us. The children beamed with joy as they entered their new classrooms and prepared for their school adventure.
This year, Mayor Andreas Feller visited the Kreuzbergschule to deliver a special welcome message to those starting school. At the celebration in the gym, he spoke to the 37 new students, their parents, the school principal Maria Karg-Pirzer and the teachers. Feller wanted to sweeten the start of school life for the children and gave each of them a bar of fair trade chocolate. This chocolate is not only delicious, but also fairly produced, meaning the farmers who grow it receive a fair price for their work.
Important safety message
In addition to the sweet treats, there was an important message about safety. The mayor presented each child with a high-visibility vest. These vests are particularly important to make children visible in traffic, especially in the darker months of the year. “We are all trying to ensure that you get to school and back home safely,” Feller explained to the attentive children. He encouraged parents to ensure their children wear the vests regularly.
Feller said goodbye to the school starters with a heartfelt wish for lots of joy and success in learning. The first day of school is an exciting step into a new phase of life for many children, and with actions like this the city of Schwandorf shows that it takes the safety and well-being of its youngest citizens seriously.
