Broadband expansion in Nittenau: information event on the future of internet provision
The city of Nittenau has decided to actively participate in broadband expansion to improve internet connectivity in the region. This is happening as part of the Free State of Bavaria's funding program, which aims to build gigabit-capable broadband networks. The initiative is part of the Bavarian Gigabit Directive, which aims to strengthen digital infrastructure in rural areas.
Through this measure, around 340 households in various districts such as Bodenstein, Hof am Regen, Muckenbach, Neuhaus, Stefling, St. Martin and Thann will be supplied by Deutsche Telekom GmbH with a modern FTTH (Fiber to the Home) connection. This means that the internet connection is routed directly into the home, allowing for a significantly faster and more stable connection.
Details about the funding decision
On December 9, 2022, the city of Nittenau received a funding decision from the Free State of Bavaria in the amount of 1,153,584 euros. This is a significant financial contribution that will enable the city to make the necessary investments in digital infrastructure. In addition, the city is contributing its own funds of around 129,000 euros to support the project.
Direct marketing has been running since September 2024 and is carried out by the OFM company commissioned by Telekom. This means that Telekom will actively contact the affected households in order to offer the new Internet connections. In order to inform citizens about the progress and possibilities of the funded broadband expansion, an information event will take place on November 6, 2024 at the Landgasthof Schmidbauer in Muckenbach. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and is aimed at anyone interested.
However, it is important to note that Telekom AG recently announced that the internal expansion plans originally announced for 2022 have been postponed for the time being. This could have implications for the future development of internet infrastructure in the region.
