Neukirchen-Balbini: Together for the future of biological diversity
Our nature is our basis of life. The Neukirchen-Balbini market is committed to preserving biological diversity in the long term. The municipality has therefore decided to create a municipal biodiversity strategy. This project is supported by the Oberpfälzer Wald e.V. Nature Park, which is the sponsor of the project.
Development of the strategy
Since autumn 2023, the Neukirchen-Balbini market has been working with interested citizens, members of the market town council and specialist authorities to develop a strategy to strengthen biological diversity. Representatives from the areas of agriculture, forestry, water and environmental education as well as local clubs and associations are also involved. The first actions, such as presenting the topic of “Biological Diversity” at the Michaelmas Market on September 29, 2024, have already been implemented. A painting activity for children also took place there.
Implementation workshop
The third and final workshop took place on October 15, 2024 in the Schießl-Hof. The previous results of the workshops and technical discussions were summarized in concrete action tables. The participants assessed which projects in the subject areas of “open land”, “forest”, “water bodies”, “settlement”, “experience of nature and raising awareness” and “value creation” were considered particularly important. The projects with high priority include the expansion of the Schießl-Hof as an environmental education area and cooperation with agricultural businesses to build a habitat network in open areas.
Completion of the strategy
The office landimpuls GmbH from Regenstauf leads the workshop and is commissioned to create the biodiversity strategy. The strategy will be completed by the end of 2024. The tables of measures form the essential content of the strategy. In addition, a plan is drawn up that locates suitable projects within the market town area. Coordination with the responsible specialist authorities will take place before the strategy is decided by the market town council at the beginning of 2025.
Implementation of project ideas
In order to realize the diverse project ideas and strengthen biological diversity in Neukirchen-Balbini, options for implementing the biodiversity strategy are already being discussed.
