“This is good for us and we can urgently use it,” emphasizes the Tafel employeeMarlene Karl. The calendar is a popular Christmas gift every year. Many people collect it. The proceeds from sales are donated to a social cause. This year the donation will go to the Tafel in the city triangle, which has a distribution point in Leonberg.
Need for support
“We look after between 300 and 350 people per week,” saysCharlesin conversation withGiftandWolfgang Weiss, the business manager. “We often lack everything.” The food bank works Monday through Saturday to sort goods and pick up food donations. Around 50 volunteers work there. “That sounds like a lot, but it is often far too little for the needs and the city triangle.”
Challenges for the board
The food bank is always looking for volunteers. Many colleagues give up their commitment for reasons of age. “We lack young talent, and working people understandably have little time.”Charlesalso reports that not all those in need can be helped by simply offering a distribution point. “Many would like to come to the food bank, but are unable to due to lack of distance or for health reasons.”
“They are ashamed to come to us,” addsMarianne Eißeleadded. The donation will also be used to deliver food by vehicle and cover the costs of this. The purchase of food is also planned. “Perishable goods such as pasta, flour or rice are rarely donated, but of course they are in demand by the food bank’s customers.”
Fairness in issuing
