New LED floodlight system in Kiefenholz: A step towards climate protection

The city of Wörth has extensively renovated the floodlight system on the Kiefenholz sports grounds. The old masts were badly worn and were replaced in 2023. This year, the metal halide lamps will be converted to modern LED spotlights. This measure contributes to improving climate protection.

Funding for conversion

The city applied for and received funding of 8,265 euros from the federal government via ZUG (Zukunft-Umwelt-Gesellschaft). In addition, she received 9,489 euros from the Free State of Bavaria through the “KommKlimaFör” program. The new spotlights have a total output of 7,200 watts, compared to the previous 16,000 watts. This significantly reduces CO² emissions. Calculated over 20 years, 61 tons of CO² can be saved. Electricity consumption drops by around 79 percent, which corresponds to an annual saving of around 6,900 kWh.

Costs of renovation

The replacement of the floodlight masts cost around 37,000 euros. These expenses were borne by the city without government funding. The cost of converting the lighting system was around 33,600 euros. After deducting the funding, you are left with a personal contribution of around 15,900 euros. The new system is already in operation. The clubs that use the space now benefit from optimal lighting.
