Wöhrdstrasse: Complete closure from September 19th – diversions for buses
From September 19, 2024, Wöhrdstrasse will be completely closed in the area of the Nibelungen Bridge for a certain period of time. This measure is necessary to create the new main connection to the parking lot at Unterer Wöhrd and to carry out road maintenance work. The closure is expected to last until October 11, 2024, meaning that motorists will only be able to drive to a limited extent or not at all from the Nibelungen Bridge towards the Old Town. Pedestrians and cyclists are not affected by the closure. They can still be guided safely past the construction site, which is a relief for many commuters.
Details about the construction phases
In the first phase, which lasts from September 19th to 23rd, 2024, Wöhrdstrasse will be completely closed in the intersection area with the Nibelungen Bridge. However, access to the parking lot at the Old Ice Stadium remains possible from both the Am Winterhafen entrance and the Nibelungen Bridge. Residents can get to their homes via a special corridor in the parking area. During this time, only 160 public paid parking spaces will be available; resident parking spaces will not be affected.
In the second phase, from September 24th to October 6th, 2024, the full closure will be partially lifted. The east side of the Nibelungen Bridge will be accessible again, and it will also be possible to drive from the Nibelungen Bridge into Wöhrdstrasse. Access to the parking lot remains unchanged.
The final phase, which will take place from October 7th to 11th, 2024, will again require a full closure in order to lay low-noise asphalt and carry out final marking work. This closure affects the eastern section of Wöhrdstrasse. During this time, the parking lot at the Old Ice Stadium will not be available and the Wöhrdinsel can only be reached via the Iron Bridge. The street “Am Winterhafen” remains accessible via Insel- und Werftstrasse.
