New senior surgeon: Prof. Maderbacher strengthens the Wörth district clinic!

The Wörth district clinic is facing a change in the leadership of its medical team. Prof. Dr. med. Günther Maderbacher will be the new senior surgeon from January 1, 2026. This was announced at a hospital board meeting on November 26, 2025. Prof. Maderbacher is a specialist in orthopedics and trauma surgery and has extensive additional qualifications in manual medicine/chirotherapy, special orthopedic surgery, skeletal radiology and sports medicine. He will work at the Wörth District Clinic primarily in the areas of endoprosthetics and foot and ankle surgery, while at the same time he will also work at MedArtes in Neutraubling.

District Administrator Tanja Schweiger commented on the new team member and emphasized the importance of Prof. Maderbacher for expanding the clinic's medical spectrum. This additional expertise comes at a time when the clinic is struggling with economic challenges, according to hospital director Martin Rederer.

Economic situation and challenges

The Wörth district clinic is faced with a forecast deficit of around 3.06 million euros for 2025. This results from high energy and material costs as well as tariff increases. However, a one-off surcharge of 3.25%, valid from November 2025 to October 2026, will bring the clinic additional income of around 950,000 euros. Of this, around 160,000 euros are already included in the deficit for 2025.

From 2026, the district clinic is expected to receive around 640,000 euros less in financial resources. Despite this challenging situation, the 2024 annual financial statements show an improvement: a loss of 1.46 million euros is better than the planned 3.04 million euros. Increases in efficiency in personnel and material expenses as well as higher revenues contribute to this positive development.

Future outlook and investments

The district clinic continues to invest in its future. A northern expansion of the clinic complex is planned, which includes the construction of a new bed wing and the expansion of important functional areas. On July 8, 2025, the Bavarian Council of Ministers decided to include the first construction phase worth 36.06 million euros in the 2028 annual hospital construction program. This reflects the clinic's commitment to improving its structures, despite the profound changes that are pending as a result of the Hospital Care Improvement Act (KHVVG) and the planned Hospital Reform Adjustment Act (KHAG).

The Wörth District Clinic is confident that it can overcome these challenges. The goal is to achieve the agreed performance targets and thus ensure economic stability. High patient and employee satisfaction are also the focus of the clinic's efforts.

The clinic's remarkable success was recently celebrated at the 17th “Germany's Best Clinic Website” award, in which the Wörth district clinic came 47th out of 235 participants. This award underlines the clinic's commitment to an efficient and engaging digital presence.
