Art against violence: Daria Moser's haunting exhibition in Wenzenbach

The current exhibition “Fight The Fear” by Daria Moser in Wenzenbach takes a powerful look at the topics of violence against women and femicide. The self-taught painter from Russia, who survived an attempted femicide by her husband in 2023, shows her large-format acrylic paintings in this exhibition in the local government meeting room. This celebration of strong colors and emotional expression can be seen until October 22, 2025 and is in collaboration with the Equal Opportunities Office of the Regensburg district.

Daria Moser's artistic work is strongly influenced by her personal experiences. After a tragic breakup, she was brutally doused with three liters of hot oil. Her painting acts as a therapeutic outlet to deal with her emotions and regain her self-confidence. The exhibition title “Fight The Fear” not only describes her attitude to life, but also runs through her entire work. The images are available for purchase and are seen by the artist as part of a healing process.

Background and alarming statistics

In recent years there has been a sharp rise in crimes against women and girls, particularly in the area of domestic violence. A frightening example of this is that in 2023 femicide was committed almost every day in Germany. According to official statistics, 65 femicides have been recorded as of August 19, 2025. Femicide, understood as the killing of women because of their gender, is often the result of patriarchally motivated violence by (ex-)partners.

This problem is not just an individual concern, but a concern for society as a whole. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the causes of femicide can be explained in many ways and often stem from outdated gender relations. The statistics show that the phenomenon has far-reaching social implications. Even if the BKA provides clear figures on female killings, the lack of a uniform definition of femicide remains a major problem.

Joint fight against violence

On the occasion of the International Day against Violence against Women, which is celebrated on November 25th, there will be three exhibitions in Regensburg from November 17th to 30th. In addition to Daria Moser's, there will also be a poster exhibition entitled “Stop Femicide!” presented, which draws attention to the explosive topic that an (ex-) partner is killed by a man almost every day in Germany. The exhibition is supported by the Regensburg Round Table against Domestic Violence and the equal opportunities offices of the city and district of Regensburg.

Another highlight of the November exhibitions is the print-on-demand exhibition “Together Against Sexism”, which deals with the various facets of sexism and offers tips for prevention. These initiatives are not only a sign against violence, but also a call for solidarity and cooperation in society.

In this context, the Regensburg Round Table against Domestic Violence, which has been active since 2000, aims to improve support structures for women affected by violence. These include various institutions such as women's shelters, advice centers and youth welfare offices. The coordination is carried out by the Office for Equal Opportunities of the City of Regensburg and the Equal Opportunities Office of the Regensburg District. For further information, interested parties can contact Silvia Siegler, the equal opportunities officer for the Regensburg district.

The entanglement of art and social responsibility is particularly clear in Daria Moser's exhibition and represents an important violence prevention measure - for artists and society as a whole.
