Electrification in Northeast Bavaria: Testing of the traction power line completed!
On September 25, 2025, the final procedures for electrification in northeast Bavaria were officially announced. The relevant information comes from a communication from the government of the Upper Palatinate, which was published on August 27, 2025. In this context, the spatial impact assessment for the 110 kV traction power line between the Burgweinting, Irrenlohe, Weiden and Pechbrunn substations, which is operated by DB Energie GmbH, was successfully completed. This extensive review is a crucial step towards modernizing and improving the region's electricity supply, which is central to the electrification of the German rail network. Further detailed information can be found on the website of the Government of the Upper Palatinate.
The state planning assessment, which was finalized on August 26, 2025, determined that the project meets the requirements of spatial planning, with the exception of variants A1, A2 and C3. These variants had crucial differences that could be further addressed in the public discussion. Ongoing evaluations and discussions are expected as the project moves forward.
Details about the test and the results
The spatial impact assessment was carefully carried out by the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Schwarzenfeld and has reached its conclusion. The result is documented in the appendix to the state planning assessment, which also contains an explanatory map for assessing the route variants. This information is intended to help citizens better understand the effects of the new traction power line.
In addition to this information, the detailed data on the state planning assessment is also available in PDF form on the administrative community website. These documents contain crucial information about the proposed routes and their assessment.
Sebastian Koch, First Mayor of Wenzenbach, signed the announcement, which once again underlines the official nature of this announcement. The results of the audit show that authorities are making progress in implementing electrical infrastructure in the region, while providing a platform for future dialogues on the variations and their impact on the landscape.
