HASA educational initiative: New opportunities for young people in Regensburg!

The HASA ("HAuptsache SchulDiplom") educational initiative will be continued in order to offer teenagers and young adults in the region better opportunities for the transition into the world of work. This was announced when a new cooperation agreement was signed by District Administrator Tanja Schweiger and Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer. The agreement applies to the school years 2025/2026 to 2029/2030 and includes a comprehensive program that is offered under the sponsorship of the Evangelisches Bildungswerk (EBW), the Catholic Adult Education in the Diocese of Regensburg (KEB) and the Regensburg Adult Education Center. The programs receive support from the city and district of Regensburg as well as the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture.

The course offering is aimed specifically at young people from the city and district of Regensburg who do not have a school-leaving certificate after middle school. Every year, over 5% of young people in Bavaria leave school without a qualification, often due to deficits in reading, writing and arithmetic, the consequences of the corona pandemic and a lack of knowledge of German. Since 1986, courses for the subsequent acquisition of secondary school qualifications have been offered, with over 900 participants successfully achieving their qualifications since the 1980s.

Program details

The HASA program is a ten-month, full-time program designed specifically for youth and young adults ages 17 to 25 who do not have a high school diploma. The lessons are offered as a pedagogically coordinated program that is individually adapted. The main focuses include:

• Individuelle Lernunterstützung
• Intensive sozialpädagogische Betreuung
• Unterstützung bei der Suche nach Ausbildungs- und Arbeitsplätzen
• Vermittlung effektiver Bewerbungsstrategien
