Traffic calming in Kumpfmühl: New measures for cyclists and pedestrians

The city administration has presented a new package of measures for Kumpfmühler Straße. This road is an important part of the main cycle route network. Cyclists and pedestrians should benefit from the changes. Preparatory work began on Monday, November 4, 2024. Depending on the weather, the changes will be implemented over the course of the week.

Changes in traffic

In order to reduce vehicle traffic, the lane routing on Augsburger Straße will be changed. Those turning left into Erzbischof-Buchberger-Allee will have a separate left-turn lane. This measure increases traffic safety at the intersection of Nibelungenstrasse and Augsburger Strasse. A bus lane will be set up for local public transport. The aim is to direct more vehicle traffic, which has no destination in Kumpfmühl, coming from the south onto the A 93 motorway.

Improvements for cyclists

The changes also affect the intersections of Hofgartenweg and Gutenbergstrasse. Right-turn lanes are marked there. Cyclists are allowed to continue straight on these lanes. This relieves the right lane of vehicle traffic. Improvements are also planned for the opposite direction. The ford over Gutenbergstrasse will be colored red to make clear the priority of bicycle traffic to the south. Appropriate markings and pictograms help road users find their way around quickly.

Accessibility of shops

Access to local shops remains unrestricted during the work. The traffic lights at the community center will also remain in place.
