MONUMENTA: Digital discovery tour through Regensburg's monuments

Regensburg (RL). The innovative pilot project MONUMENTA web app will soon make the monuments in the district and the city of Regensburg accessible via multimedia. With funding from the Free State of Bavaria and additional funds from the city and district of Regensburg, a new digital platform is being created that presents the region's cultural treasures in an interactive, multimedia form. Under the direction of District AdministratorTanya Schweigerthe Committee for Family, Culture and Leisure informed itself about this project at its last meeting on November 7, 2024; The committee had already made the fundamental decision in favor of this project on July 19, 2023.

A comparable digital offer does not yet exist in Bavaria or Germany.

Outlook: What can users expect?

By the end of the year, the architectural and art monuments in the southern district should be completely inspected. With the start of activation, which is planned for January 2025, systematic public relations work will also begin with a focus on the southern district that has already been worked on. Information lectures on site, press appointments and reports are planned on the occasion of the gradual activation of further communities. School visits as part of a monument education project in cooperation with the Bauwärts office, Regensburg/Munich, are also intended to help expand the circle of users.

The eastern district is scheduled to be completed by June/July 2025 and MONUMENTA is expected to provide content for the entire district by March 2026. The content for the city of Regensburg will follow by the end of 2026. Here, too, the MONUMENTA web app is to be promoted to the public in cooperation with the city of Regensburg.
