Discover hidden treasures: Open Monument Day in the district
On Sunday, September 8th, a very special event will be celebrated in the Regensburg district: Open Monument Day. On this day, visitors have the opportunity to view historic buildings that are normally not or rarely open to the public. It's a great opportunity to experience the region's history and culture up close.
This year's motto is "True Signs. Witnesses to History". This means that the monuments are viewed not only as ancient buildings, but also as symbols of the past and the stories they tell. These monuments are not only important to the people in the area, but also attract tourists who want to learn more about the region.
Diverse offers for everyone
On Monument Open Day there is a varied program that offers something for everyone. The events are mostly free and offer the opportunity to learn more about monument preservation. Expert guided tours provide insights into the history and significance of the individual buildings. Here are some of the highlights that visitors can expect:
- Am Samstag, den 7. September, findet um 16 Uhr eine Führung durch die Burgruine Ehrenfels in Beratzhausen statt. Die Ruine wird seit 2020 saniert, und die Besucher können mehr über die Fortschritte und neue Forschungsergebnisse erfahren.
- In Donaustauf öffnet der Chinesische Turm am Sonntag von 13 bis 17 Uhr seine Türen. Neben Führungen wird ein Film über die Restaurierung des Turms gezeigt, und um 14 Uhr findet ein Schachturnier statt.
- In Frauenzell gibt es um 14 und 16 Uhr Führungen durch die ehemalige Benediktinerklosterkirche, während um 15 Uhr der Felsenkeller besichtigt werden kann.
- In Kallmünz können die Besucher an Führungen zu drei verschiedenen Wahrzeichen teilnehmen, darunter die Sebastianskirche und die Burgruine.
- Das Heimatmuseum in Oberhinkofen zeigt alte Handwerkskunst und das Leben auf dem Bauernhof von 14 bis 16 Uhr.
- In Pfatter wird der historische Wallnerstadel von 9.30 bis 16 Uhr geöffnet, wo Führungen und Vorträge zur Sanierung angeboten werden.
- In Regenstauf gibt es zwischen 14 und 16 Uhr einen Spaziergang durch den Alten Friedhof, bei dem historische Gräber vorgestellt werden.
- In Sünching öffnet das Heimatmuseum von 14 bis 17 Uhr, wo die Besucher in die Geschichte der Munitionsbunker eintauchen können.
- In Wolfsegg ist das Burgmuseum von 10 bis 16 Uhr geöffnet und bietet Einblicke in das Leben auf einer mittelalterlichen Burg.
The Open Monument Day takes place every year on the second Sunday in September and is coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection. It is an excellent opportunity to discover the cultural treasures of the region and learn more about the importance of the architectural heritage.
