13 young talents are starting their careers in the Regensburg District Office!

On September 1, 2025, 13 new trainees started their careers in the Regensburg district office. District Administrator Tanja Schweiger, Franz Ebner, head of the human resources department, and Michael Schebler, head of training, welcomed the young talent in a small ceremony in the meeting room of the district office. The new generation includes various job profiles that are important for various tasks in the public service.

Among the new trainees are two road guards: Dominik Bauer and Leonhard Kainzbauer, as well as Marie Michalik, who is starting her training as a gardener. The IT specialist system integration, Fabian Waas, and various prospective administrative specialists are also part of the group. Lukas Wischki is being trained as an administrative secretary candidate (2nd qualification level), while Emilie Kagerer is starting as an administrative inspector candidate (3rd qualification level). In addition, Jason Matz and David Weber were hired as government secretary candidates (2nd qualification level).

The training places and the shortage of skilled workers

Demographic change and the shortage of skilled workers are significant challenges for the public sector. Policymakers and professionals like those at PwC emphasize the need to attract and develop new talent to meet government needs. According to the experts, existing options for flexible retirement should be expanded and the requirements in the public sector should be adapted to the actual tasks in order to shorten the training period and make retraining more efficient. Digital administrative modernization could help combat the shortage of skilled workers in the public sector.

As part of their training, the new young talents have the opportunity to gain practical experience and develop their skills in a responsible environment. Next month, on October 1, 2025, five more junior employees will begin their duties as government inspector candidates (3rd qualification level): Tobias Blechinger, Lukas Dummer, Johanna Fischer, Johann Kerbs and Marietheres Kiener.

A total of 44 young people are now working in various training programs at the Regensburg District Office. This shows the authority's commitment to promoting young talent and at the same time counteracting the shortage of skilled workers. In view of these developments, measures such as job profiling and image campaigns are considered necessary to position the public sector as an attractive employer and to attract young people to a career in administration.

The challenges in the public sector highlight the urgency of actively recruiting young talent. The success of the Regensburg District Office could serve as a model for other institutions that have similar difficulties. The first steps are promising, and the new young talents are ready to actively shape the future of the administration.
