New special area in Sünching: solar power for the future!

On September 17, 2024, the Sünching municipal council passed an important resolution: amending the land use plan with cover sheet no. 04. This measure aims to designate another special area for the research, development and use of renewable energies, in particular photovoltaic systems. The location is north of the Sünching-Radldorf railway line.

The change area will be publicly available for interested citizens from February 10, 2026 to March 13, 2026. The associated planning documents will be presented within this period. In addition, a project-related development and green space plan entitled “SO PV system railway line” will be drawn up in a parallel process.

Details about the planned photovoltaic system

The modification area covers an area of approximately 56,098 m², which corresponds to approximately 5.61 hectares. A ground-mounted photovoltaic system with a module output of approximately 6.0 megawatts is to be built on this site. The electricity generated is fed into the grid via a newly laid supply line.

In accordance with Section 11 Paragraph 2 of the Building Use Ordinance, the areas are presented as other special areas with the purpose of “photovoltaics”. These areas are located about one kilometer east of the town center of Sünching, directly north of the Passau-Obertraubling railway line. The affected areas are currently used intensively for agriculture.

Contribution to climate goals and environmental protection

With the planned photovoltaic system, the municipality of Sünching would like to make a contribution to achieving Germany's climate goals. This includes in particular the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The selection of areas takes into account pre-polluted spaces along the railway line to ensure environmentally friendly use.

The potential environmental impact of the plant should be minimized. According to available documents, the planned use is not expected to have any significant negative impacts on the environment. Nevertheless, measures are planned to avoid and minimize environmental impacts, taking into account species protection concerns. The overall assessment of the initiative shows that the areas can be used for agriculture again after use.

The municipality of Sünching has also defined special criteria for the suitability of areas for open-field photovoltaic systems in order to ensure the sustainable development of the region. These precautions underline the community's commitment to an environmentally friendly energy transition.
