ADFC bicycle climate test 2024: Your opinion counts for more cycling friendliness!

The ADFC bicycle climate test 2024 started on September 1st and runs until November 30th. During this time, all citizens are invited to share their experiences and opinions on the cycling situation in their city or community. The survey is online at www.fkt.adfc.de available and takes about ten minutes.

The survey includes 27 questions focusing on different aspects of cycling. These include the feeling of safety when cycling, the width of the cycle paths and the accessibility of destinations by bike. A central theme this year is coexistence in traffic, which highlights the interaction between cyclists and other road users.

Important topics of the test

In addition to the basic questions, there are specific questions that concern behavior in traffic. This asks whether cyclists perceive the behavior of other road users as considerate and whether the necessary distance is maintained when overtaking. This information is crucial to improving road safety and raising awareness of the needs of cyclists.

The results of the test are important not only for cyclists, but also for municipalities that want to adapt their infrastructure accordingly. The most bicycle-friendly cities and communities will be honored at the Federal Ministry of Transport in Berlin in spring 2025. This motivates many to take part in the survey and cast their vote for better cycling infrastructure.

The ADFC carries out this test every two years, and this year is the eleventh edition. The Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport supports the test as part of the National Cycling Plan. The bicycle climate test is considered an important indicator of the satisfaction of cyclists in Germany.

Around 245,000 people took part in the last test in 2022, resulting in a comprehensive ranking of the most bike-friendly cities and communities. The results of the latest surveys for Bavaria can be viewed on the ADFC Bayern website.
