At the Sinzing community's New Year's reception on January 21, 2026, the outstanding table tennis player Ms. Gertrud Dietrich was honored for her sporting successes. First Mayor Martin Brix recognized the remarkable achievements of citizens over the past year. Among those honored is Ms. Dietrich, who won the title in both the individual and mixed doubles at the German Senior Championships in Erfurt in June 2025.
Gertrud Dietrich is one of the most successful senior players in German table tennis. Her impressive record includes five German Champion titles and one runner-up title in the last seven years since the Senior Championships have been held. Her passion for sport is reflected not only in her successes, but also in her active role as a trainer and member of the department management at the DJK Sportbund Regensburg.
Achievements and titles
At the German Championships in Erfurt, Dietrich defended her title in the 60 age group and secured her third championship title in this category. In the quarterfinals she beat Karen Hellwig 13:11 in the deciding set and then won in the semifinals in five sets after a change in tactics. In the final she clearly triumphed against Balfoort from Willich.
In addition to her individual title, she also won the mixed doubles championship title alongside Bruno Lehmann. The duo won the decisive match 3-2, once again demonstrating Dietrich's impressive talent. Numerous Bavarian championship titles and a third place in women's doubles at the 2017 European Senior Championships in Helsingborg round off her impressive career.
Back to the roots
Ms. Dietrich began her table tennis career early at the DJK Sportbund Regensburg, where she was always one of the top Bavarian and extended German players in the school and youth classes. Over the years she mostly played for her hometown club in the regional league and in the meantime also had a move to MTV Ingolstadt in the 2nd Bundesliga.
In the current 2025/26 season she and her team will compete in the Bavarian Oberliga. Her love for table tennis continues and she enjoys the friendships and travel that come with the sport. Mayor Brix and numerous people present, including 2nd Mayor Josef Espach and 3rd Mayor Thomas Schwindl, warmly congratulated Ms. Dietrich on her extraordinary sporting successes.
Overall, the honoring of Gertrud Dietrich at the celebration in Sinzing shows how important sport and personal achievement are valued in the community. Her successes are not only a testament to her talent, but also to her tireless passion for table tennis.
