Traffic chaos on the A3: Six-lane expansion brings restrictions
Autobahn GmbH has announced that there will be significant traffic restrictions on the A3 between Regensburg University and Regensburg East this weekend. These measures are part of the six-lane expansion of the motorway, which began in February 2018. A special noise protection covering is now being installed to reduce noise pollution for residents.
From Friday evening, September 20, 2024, from around 7:30 p.m. until Monday morning, September 23, 2024, at around 5 a.m., traffic in the direction of Passau will be severely affected. During this period, only one lane will be available and the maximum speed will be limited to 60 km/h. This means that two lanes in the direction of Passau are closed and the remaining lane is moved to the oncoming lane.
Details about traffic restrictions
The Regensburg-Burgweinting junction is particularly affected. Here it is not possible to enter or exit in the direction of Passau. Drivers coming from Nuremberg and wanting to leave the A3 at this point must use the Regensburg-Universität junction as a detour. The U65 diversion is available for the drive towards Passau, which leads via Landshuter Straße and Odessa-Ring.
In the opposite direction, i.e. towards Nuremberg, there are only two lanes available this weekend between the Regensburg-Ost and Regensburg-Universität junctions. There is also a speed limit of 60 km/h and trucks and buses are not allowed to overtake. However, entries and exits at the junctions are still possible.
The work is planned for a total of four weekends in September and October 2024. After the first weekend, which was postponed due to weather conditions, further restrictions will follow on the weekends of September 27th to 30th, October 11th to 14th and October 18th to 21st. There will be similar restrictions on these weekends, with exact details published on the project website.
For anyone who needs to use the diversions, updated maps are available on the Autobahn GmbH website. These maps show the current diversion routes and are below www.a3-regensburg.de/service available.
Autobahn GmbH points out that all times mentioned are non-binding and can change due to various factors, such as weather conditions. The decision as to whether the work will be carried out as planned will be made on the Thursday before the weekend and announced on the project website.
A contact person will be available on site for media representatives during the work. Christoph Graebel can be contacted on 0151 25 82 26 96 or by email at graebel@lots.de be contacted.
