Traffic chaos on the A3: noise protection pavement causes restrictions
Weather-related postponement of the first installation weekend for noise protection surfacing on the A3: 20-23. September 2024.

Traffic chaos on the A3: noise protection pavement causes restrictions
The A3 motorway between Nuremberg and Passau is facing an important phase of renovation. The first of four planned installation weekends for the noise protection covering was originally scheduled for September 13th to 16th, 2024. However, due to unfavorable weather conditions, in particular the predicted continuous rain, this date has been postponed to the weekend of September 20th to 23rd, 2024. The construction and project management made this decision to ensure the quality of the work.
The work on the noise protection surface is part of the six-lane expansion of the A3, which began in February 2018. These final measures are crucial to reducing traffic noise for residents. The coming weekends in September and October are planned for the work to be carried out, with the weather playing a key role.
Traffic restrictions during work
Road users have to prepare for significant restrictions. From September 20th, around 7:30 p.m., to September 23rd, around 5 a.m., there will be disruptions on the A3 between the Regensburg-Universität and Regensburg-Ost junctions. The Southern Bavaria motorway recommends avoiding journeys if possible to avoid traffic jams.
During this time, only one lane will be available in the direction of Passau and the speed will be limited to 60 km/h. In addition, two lanes will be eliminated, which makes the traffic situation even more difficult. At the Regensburg-Burgweinting junction, both the exit and entry towards Passau are not possible. Road users coming from Nuremberg should use the Regensburg-Universität junction as a detour.
In the opposite direction, i.e. towards Nuremberg, there are also only two lanes available between the Regensburg-Ost and Regensburg-Universität junctions. There is also a speed limit of 60 km/h and trucks and buses are not allowed to overtake. However, entries and exits at the junctions are still possible.
Weather-dependent scheduling
The execution of the work is heavily dependent on the weather. The decision as to whether the work can take place as planned will be made on Thursday afternoon, September 19th and announced on the project website. The remaining installation weekends are scheduled for September 27th to 30th, October 11th to 14th and October 18th to 21st, 2024.
Information for affected road users can be found on the project website www.a3-regensburg.de Detour maps available for download. These maps help to find alternative routes and minimize the impact of construction work.
There will be a contact person on site for media representatives during the work. Christoph Graebel can be reached on 0151 25 82 26 96. Further information on the current traffic situation on the motorways is available at www.bayerninfo.de available.
