Nittendorf railway bridge: Major construction site from January 12th – full closure of the R 31!

The extensive renovation of the railway bridge near Nittendorf will begin on January 12, 2026. This measure is expected to last until the end of August 2026 and will lead to the complete closure of the R 31 district road. The railway line between Nuremberg and Regensburg will also be closed in the first half of 2026, which will have a significant impact on the situation for commuters and residents. The need for this renovation arises from the condition of the bridge built in 1979, the asphalt surface of which is being replaced between the bridge and the entrance to Nittendorf.

In addition to the bridge renovation, two bus stops will also be made barrier-free and the junction of the district road R 31 with the state road St 2660 will be adjusted. The Regensburg district is covering the total costs of the construction project, which amount to around 2.25 million euros, of which 1.7 million euros are for the bridge renovation and 550,000 euros for the repair of the district road and the barrier-free expansion of the bus stops. The construction work is being carried out by the Fahrner company from Mallersdorf-Pfaffenberg.

Detours and accessibility

During the complete closure of the R 31 district road, access to the Glockensiedlung near Etterzhausen as well as to commercial businesses and residents is only possible via Nittendorf. Once the bridge work is completed, access to the Glockensiedlung will again be via State Road St 2660. It is important that residents and businesses have access to their properties throughout the entire construction period.

Local public transport and school bus services will remain operational throughout the construction period. Further information about replacement bus stops and changes to the bus timetable is available on the RVV homepage. The construction work is expected to lead to increased traffic volumes and longer waiting times, particularly due to rail replacement services and diversions.

Further construction work at a glance

Parallel to the renovation of the railway bridge, several construction projects are being carried out in the Nittendorf municipal area. This includes the repair of the bridge over the railway near Deuerling (state road St 2660) from January to July 2026 as well as the general renovation of the Regensburg - Nuremberg railway line by Deutsche Bahn from February 6th to July 10th, 2026. During this work, the junction of the district road R 14 with the state road St 2660 between Pollenried and the A 3 motorway is identified as a critical junction, which is why Drivers are advised to avoid this area or to avoid traffic jams to avoid backlogs.
