Board meeting in Mötzing: Focus on the future of village renewal!
On Tuesday, September 23, 2025, a public board meeting of the community of participants in the Mötzing-Schönach village renewal will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Dengling community center, St.-Markus-Straße 23, 93099 Mötzing. This meeting is organized by the Office for Rural Development Upper Palatinate. The agenda includes plant selection for Kastnerstrasse and other topics. Following the public meeting there will be a non-public part, which is why listeners are asked to leave the room. The announcement is made by Katharina Weig from Tirschenreuth ( gemeinde-moetzing.de ).
In addition, the Mötzing-Schönach participant community has applied to the Upper Palatinate Office for Rural Development for approval of the plan for community and public facilities. This application is based on Section 41 of the Land Consolidation Act (FlurbG) and was carried out as part of a general preliminary examination to determine the obligation to carry out an environmental impact assessment (EIA). The preliminary examination has shown that the project does not have any significant adverse environmental effects that would have to be taken into account in accordance with Section 25 Paragraph 2 of the UVPG. There is therefore no obligation to carry out an UVP, and this determination cannot be independently challenged in accordance with Section 5 Paragraph 3 Sentence 1 UVPG ( uvp-verbund.de ).
Village renewal as a central approach
In the context of village renewal, the Ministry for the Environment, Climate, Mobility, Agriculture and Consumer Protection has identified the challenges for rural areas. These include structural change in various economic sectors, demographic change and the effects of climate change. The aim of village renewal is to improve living, housing, working and environmental conditions in rural areas. This includes strengthening the economic, ecological and social potential as well as promoting the internal development of the villages. Citizen participation plays a central role ( saarland.de ).
Village renewal measures distinguish between public and private projects. Public funding aims to improve the infrastructure and quality of life, with the basis for project-related projects being a developed village development plan. As a rule, the funding for such projects amounts to 55% of the eligible expenses, an increase to up to 75% is possible. Private funding, on the other hand, focuses on the preservation of buildings that characterize the townscape, with a share of up to 35% of eligible expenditure ( saarland.de ).
